The Constitution of the Southern Hockey League 2007-08
Constitution defined
The Constitution, Articles, By-laws, Rules and Regulations, Code of Ethics and Court Actions of the Southern Hockey League (herein after referred to as SHL), shall always be subordinate to the Constitution, Regulations and By-laws, as amended of Hockey New Brunswick and the New Brunswick Senior Hockey Council (hereinafter referred to as the HNB Constitution or HNB as the case may be and the NBSHC, respectively). Wherever a conflict arises between the SHL Constitution and the HNB Constitution, the latter shall prevail. The Constitution of the SHL shall consist of Articles, By-laws, Rules and Regulations, Court Actions and the Code of Ethics and amendments thereto, provided such amendments are made in accordance with the provisions as provided hereinafter.
Article One – Name and Affiliation
The SHL was formed in 2000 and was known as the Southern New Brunswick Senior Hockey League. The league will be duly registered with Hockey New Brunswick, or its successor, also known as HNB.
The name SNBSHL was changed in 2005 to SHL as determined by the Board of Directors.
All league members including players, bench personnel, team and league executives must be signed and/or registered with HNB prior to participating in any exhibition, regular season or playoff game.
On-Ice officials must be registered members of the New Brunswick Hockey Officials Association also known as the NBHOA.
1-5 This Constitution may strengthen but cannot weaken any article, regulation, or bylaw set out in the HNB Constitution the above named documents.
Article Two – Membership
Charter member teams of the SHL are the Blacks Harbour Silver Kings, , Saint John Black Hawks, St. Stephen Hawks, and the River Valley Home Hardware Rock.
Members of the SHL shall include the member teams and their individual players, coaches, mangers, trainers and owners.
All member teams of the SHL, must pay league membership dues, franchise fees, assessments, and any other sums, including, but not limited to, performance bonds, fines and any other assessments as may be determined by the members at the outset of any season, or as may be determined by the President from time to time, provided always however, that such determinations shall be in accordance with the Constitution. The member team must pay any fines that are assessed within 48 hours of notification of the fine amount.
