The Constitution of the Southern Hockey League 2007-08

ARTICLE ELEVEN – RULES, REGULATIONS AND BY-LAWS ETC.

All members of the SHL must agree to accept the Constitution, By-laws, Rules & Regulations, including all of the provisions of the SHL Constitution, Regulations, By-laws, Rules and Regulations, and as well all of the provisions of the CHA, HNB, NBSHC and the NBHOA, respecting any Code of Ethics, or court actions.

ARTICLE TWELVE – COURT ACTIONS

12-1 The SHL Constitution has been developed by the Members and approved at the AGM. The Constitution is designed to provide a framework and process for the continuity of the sport of hockey in the SHL and establish the manner in which all individuals must participate. The Constitution is not intended to be a legal document; however, acceptance of a membership in the SHL means that all members must accept the existing Constitution and amendments that are made by the membership from time to time, through the amendment process. Recourse to the court of law by any member of the SHL shall only be taken upon completion of the various procedures established in the Constitution settling disputes as well as any procedures established by the Court Actions provisions of HNB.

BY-LAWS

By-Law 1 – Teams

Member Teams shall include all owners, executives (if any), managers, coaches, bench and dressing room personnel, players and any person who has a direct ongoing defined position with the team. Each member team must submit to the Secretary a list of all members of their team at least one week prior to the first draft skate, usually held in October of each year and in any event prior to the commencement of the regular season. The list of team members must include the players that the member teams are protecting for the current season (the team’s “protected list”). In addition, the member team must release the non-protected player prior to the first draft skate. Each member team shall notify the Secretary of all additions or deletions to the members of a team within 48 hours of such addition or deletion and in any case prior to the player participating in a game.

The member teams will protect 28 players and make that protected list known to the SHL and member teams at least two weeks before the fall draft.

All member teams must play each game having a minimum of twelve (12) skaters and one (1) goaltender dressed and ready to play at the commencement of each game.

Any member team that commences a game with less than the minimum number of players as set out in By-law 1-4 above shall be fined a minimum of $100.00 for a first offence. Subsequent offences will be fined amount determined by the President in consultation with the Disciplinary Committee

All member teams shall share equally, any travel expenses paid to the referees during the course of the regular reason and the playoffs. The President shall determine the time of any equalization payments that are to be made.

All member teams shall charge a minimum of $6.00 Adults and $4.00 Student admission to regular season games.

All member teams shall have the last name of regular roster players displayed on the shoulders of the team members game jersey’s both home and away.
