By-Law 2 - Players

2-1 Players not on a protected list who wish to join the league must enter a
draft. All details regarding time and place, selection order of first and
subsequent rounds and identification tryouts will be decided at the
AGM.

2-2 All skaters and goaltenders must participate in a minimum of 25% of their team’s regular season games in order to be eligible to participate in the league playoffs.

2-3 Affiliated players, who have not participated in 25% of their member team’s regular season games, will be eligible for league playoffs only if they participated in a minimum of 50% of the regular season games their primary teams played.

Notwithstanding By-law 2-2 and By-law 2-3, a member team may request that the President declare as eligible for the playoffs any skater or goaltender at the pre playoff meeting. The President shall only declare a skater eligible for the playoffs upon the unanimous vote of all member teams. The President shall determine the playoff eligibility of a goaltender pursuant to By-law 1-3.

Any player not signed as a protected player or obtained through the draft shall be declared a non-roster player. They may include high-end players eligible to play 25 per cent of a team’s games, but not to be eligible for post-season. The exception in the case of a non-roster goaltender, in which case actual participation only shall be considered as taking part in the game, and such participation shall be specially noted on the game report.

2-6 (1) Any player who refuses to sign a player card or refuses to play with the team having his playing rights –if protected by that team- will sit out one season. Any player drafted by a SHL team that refuses to play for the drafting team can request in writing to be put back into the draft, traded or sit out one season.

2-7 Each member team that decides to not protect any player it had on its February 10th roster from the previous season, must release that player for the October entry draft of the following season, if they are not on the 28 man roster.
